Reissue of SPORT’s first album from 2012.
In an online interview, The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr recommended SPORT as one of the best current bands. The 13 songs—named after Olympic host cities and years, with the exception of “Annecy 2018”—have nothing to do with Britpop. Instead, they are rooted in melodic, intricately woven ’90s emo punk.
The sound is a bit dirtier and more punk than later-era The Promise Ring, more direct and more anthemic than Braid.
